Grass Roots Family Farm: Redefining Holistic Management

Grass Roots Family Farm is characterized by its rolling farm land bordering the North Eastern shores of Red Deer Lake near Ferintosh, Alberta.


Grass Roots Family farm is highly diversified offering grass fed beef, free-range eggs, garden produce additional to permaculture consultation and education. The majority of their land is planted to a mixture of alfalfa, timothy and an assortment of native grasses which is harvested each year for high quality animal forage. A small acreage is planted to cereal crops each year to facilitate the rejuvenation of hay fields and to provide grain for free range chickens and heritage hogs.


Integrated land management is a key priority at the Grass Roots Family farm with large emphasis placed on the fertility cycle. 


The Coen family operates on the principal of cultivating a meaningful connection to the natural world through food, education, and celebration.


On June 21 and 22, Grass Roots Family farm will host Nicole Masters for a two-day Soil Health Master Class focused on soil microbes, nutrient cycles, indicators, and efficiently utilizing tools like livestock. For more information and to register please visit their website here.
