Forage And Grazing Technician

The Forage and Grazing Technician plays a critical role in supporting sustainable forage and grazing management practices in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Forage & Grazing Technician – Producer Support & Demonstration Sites (Tech B) – 15 hours/week $30/hour, 4 weeks unpaid leave (2 weeks around Christmas/New Years)

Remote position, province wide travel expected (AB or SK).

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Producer consultations, demonstration site support, and applied field work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct standardized data collection, and ongoing monitoring at demonstration sites.

  • Assist producers—targeting 10 OFCAF applicants—with grazing plan development using established templates through application, installation, implementation –trouble shoot using mentor network.

  • Organize field days at selected CFGA demonstration sites and participate in partner locations.

  • Support interim and follow-up reporting by gathering field data and observations.

  • Maintain relationships with watershed groups, research associations, and industry partners.

  • Help identify regional gaps and communicate producer needs back to the agrologist.

  • Contribute short field-based content for newsletters and partner publications.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong skills in grassland ID, range health assessments, and field data collection.

  • Ability to work independently with producers on practical grazing questions.

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • College diploma in agriculture or related field preferred.

  • 3–5 years of experience in forage, grazing, or regenerative agriculture.

Contractors are required to follow all organizational expensing guidelines. All necessary tools and equipment—including computer, printer, vehicle or transportation, cell phone, and internet—must be supplied by the contractor within the contracted wage.
