Forage And Grazing Technician

The Forage and Grazing Technician plays a critical role in supporting sustainable forage and grazing management practices in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Regional and producer-oriented events, hands-on support, and foundational extension activities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and support regional workshops, grazing club events, and producer field days.

  • Assist with setup, logistics, and delivery of field demonstrations and pasture walks.

  • Help create and distribute fact sheets, handouts, and basic extension materials.

  • Support peer to peer learning networks by coordinating producer mentors and participants.

  • Conduct basic pasture assessments, grassland ID, and simple data collection at demonstration sites.

  • Assist with monthly activity reporting and contribute short updates for newsletters.

  • Maintain relationships with local producers, grazing clubs, and regional partners.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of forage species, grazing systems, and pasture management.

  • Comfortable with public interaction and event support.

  • Ability to collect field data and use basic technology tools.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or college diploma preferred.

  • 1–3 years of experience in agriculture, grazing, or extension support.

Contractors are required to follow all organizational expensing guidelines. All necessary tools and equipment—including computer, printer, vehicle or transportation, cell phone, and internet—must be supplied by the contractor within the contracted wage.
